Armed Security Officer

Job Description

The Virginia Holocaust Museum has an immediate job opportunity for an Armed Security Officer. As an Armed Security Officer, you will perform general security duties in the protection of staff, visitors and museum artifacts as assigned. This is a part-time position requiring you to work every Saturday and Sunday with periodic event hours on weekday evenings and cover as necessary for other hours throughout the year. You will be responsible for the enforcement of all applicable policies, rules, and regulations of the VHM as well as the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia as needed.


Role Responsibility

  • Perform security patrols of designated areas on foot
  • Watch for irregular or unusual conditions that may create security concerns or safety hazards
  • Communicate by use of 2-way radios, telephones and computers
  • Sound alarms or call police or fire department in case of fire or presence of unauthorized persons
  • Warn violators of rule infractions, such as trespassing or carrying forbidden weapons
  • Monitors entrances and exits
  • Observe departing personnel to ensure safety
  • Investigate and prepare reports on accidents, incidents, and suspicious activities
  • Provide assistance to guests, employees and volunteers in a courteous and professional manner, providing exceptional customer service
  • Monitor the security alarm system, access control system, fire alarm system and camera system
  • Respond to alarms and take appropriate actions
  • Make arrests if necessary

Education, Licenses and Certifications Required

  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must possess a current and valid Private Security Registration issued by DCJS with Categories RE01 Armed Security Officer, RE11 Unarmed Security Officer and RE07 Handgun endorsements (9mm firearm)
  • Additional Category RE31 Alarm Respondent preferred

Specific Experience Preferred

  • Prior Law Enforcement experience is highly preferred
  • Prior Military Service
  • Prior Security experience preferred

Other

  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Must have a flexible schedule for this position
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or foreign citizen authorized to legally work in the United States
  • No prior or current use of illegal drugs
  • Must submit to a background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications. DMV and credit checks may be required. Must be able to provide, upon job offer, a DD214 discharge document with discharge status indicated, if prior military

Physical Requirements and Environment

Environment: Indoor and outdoor, temperature ranges from moderate to extreme cold heat. 

Major Activity: Walking, standing, speaking, listening, and observing

Physical efforts to carry out job duties: Standing, walking, and sitting. Minimal stooping or kneeling. 


Employment Type: Part-time

Compensation: $13.00/hr
