Help bring the history of the Holocaust to life at the Virginia Holocaust Museum
Our volunteer docents play an important role in welcoming visitors, sharing the stories of Holocaust survivors, and helping people connect with the Museum’s exhibitions. Whether you are passionate about history, education, or simply want to give back to your community, becoming a docent is a meaningful way to make a difference.
We’re Especially Looking for Weekend Volunteers
The Museum is currently looking for volunteers who can help facilitate our Dimensions in Testimony (DIT) program on weekends, particularly between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
DIT allows visitors to have a conversation with a Holocaust survivor through interactive video technology. Volunteers help welcome visitors, get the program started, answer questions, and make sure each group has a meaningful experience.
You do not need to be a Holocaust scholar or an experienced teacher. We provide comprehensive training and ongoing support.
As a Museum Docent, You Will
- Welcome and engage with Museum visitors
- Help visitors explore our exhibitions and learn from the stories of Holocaust survivors
- Facilitate Dimensions in Testimony programs
- Encourage thoughtful questions and conversation
- Help create a welcoming and meaningful experience for visitors of all ages and backgrounds
We Welcome Volunteers Who Are
- At least 18 years old
- Interested in history, education, or the Museum’s mission
- Comfortable speaking with and engaging with diverse audiences
- Reliable, friendly, and willing to learn
- Comfortable standing and walking for periods of time
- Able to volunteer on a regular basis, with a particular need for weekend availability from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
No prior teaching or museum experience is required. We will provide the training you need to feel confident in your role.
