Jerusalem, Israel, June 1985. Retired VHM Director Dr. Charles Sydnor being introduced to then Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres, OBM, by Virginia Governor Charles S. Robb.

Dr. Sydnor accompanied the Governor and Mrs. Lynda Johnson Robb to Israel on an economic and cultural exchange mission. Dr. Sydnor had served as Governor Robb’s Executive Assistant and Speechwriter from 1982 – 1984.

The other highlight of the trip for Dr. Sydnor was the full day he spent at Yad Vashem, where he met then Yad Vashem Director Professor Dr. Yitzhak Arad, a Survivor of the Vilna Ghetto and a world renowned historian of the Holocaust. This was Dr. Sydnor’s first visit to the great memorial, archive and library at Yad Vashem, dedicated to preserving the history of the Holocaust and the memories of all the Six Million Jewish victims murdered by the Nazis.
